How we grow together in Christ
Spiritual formation is the lifelong process of growing in Christlikeness.
At Christ the King, we believe this formation touches every part of life. We are whole people - heart, soul, mind, and strength. Following Jesus is more than attending church or learning information. It is about being shaped over time into people who love God completely and love our neighbors rightly.
Our life together is becoming organized around six shared practices that shape how we grow in Christ.

Our life together is becoming organized around six shared practices that shape how we grow in Christ.

The center of the Christian life
Jesus taught that the greatest commandment is to love the Lord our God with all our heart, soul, mind, and strength, and the second is to love our neighbors as ourselves.
This vision of whole-person love sits at the center of our formation. Everything we do as a church aims to help people grow into that kind of life.
Formation does not happen instantly. It unfolds over time through shared rhythms, relationships, and practices that shape us into the image of Christ.

The six practices of formation
Belong
Following Jesus is a communal activity. We cultivate meaningful community through shared meals, friendships, hospitality, and small gatherings across our city and region. Belonging is often the first step for many people exploring faith.
Abide
Through Scripture, prayer, and personal spiritual practices we learn to remain rooted in Jesus and attentive to God's presence in daily life.
Think
Christian faith engages the whole mind. Through the CTK Forum and other learning environments, we explore how the gospel speaks to life, culture, vocation, and the questions people are actually asking.
Pray
Prayer anchors CTK in dependence upon God. We gather regularly for corporate prayer and seek to cultivate lives of prayer that shape our trust in God and our love for others.
Serve
Faith always moves outward. We seek to serve our neighbors through mercy, mission, and our every day vocations - wherever God has placed us in our homes, workplaces, schools, and communities - in South Austin and beyond.
Worship
Weekly worship is the center of our life together. It is the reorienting point of every week. All we do leads us to worship and all we do is fueled from worship. Each Sunday we gather around Scripture, prayer, singing, preaching, and the Lord's Table. Through these ordinary means of grace, God continues forming us into the image of Christ.
Formation is a lifelong journey
Spiritual formation is not a program we attend but a life we grow into together. Our hope is that through these shared practices Christ the King becomes a community of people who:
- love God with all their heart, soul, mind, and strength
- love their neighbors with humility and generosity
- and reflece the life of Jesus in the world.
